The program is designed to advance SA’s capability to exploit global value chain opportunities across multi-billion dollar industries.

The Virtual Shipyard program officially started at the Regency TAFE facilities. The program aims to deliver practical skills designed to advance industrial capability to South Australia.

The twelve month program will provide a capability development pathway to enable APC Technology, along with a total of fifteen other selected SA companies, to integrate more effectively with designers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and global supply chains.

The program has been developed to primarily elevate the digital capability of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to enable them to meet global supply chain requirements of future naval shipbuilding projects. The program offers an Industry 4.0 capability development platform, benchmarked against world’s best-practice approaches. .

APC Technology currently plans to involve over twenty five percent of their staff in the Virtual Shipyard program. Scott Begbie, Managing Director commented on the value of the program. “As a company we endeavour to adopt cutting edge technology within our business. We currently work within multiple industries including defence and as future naval shipbuilding programs will establish digital environments, we want to have access and be able to become part of these supply chains. To achieve this we need to be able to plug into and integrate with this environment. The opportunity to be involved in the virtual shipyard program will enable our staff to develop the skills to work within a digital environment and provide us with a key differentiator compared to other SMEs within SA and across the country.” Scott further commented, “We are delighted to have been chosen to be one of the first sixteen companies to have access to this program and look forward to being an active participant in its success.”

The Virtual Shipyard project is a partnership between Dassault Systèmes, ASG Group, the South Australian Government, and the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre. Through the partnership, the outcome is to develop industry capability in the use of virtual shipyards and advanced virtual product lifecycle management. Dassault Systèmes is the program delivery partner.
