APC Technology welcomes one of the first recipients of the Premier’s Defence Industry Scholarship Program

We are delighted to welcome our new intern, Brandon Sears to the engineering department at APC Technology.

Brandon is a recipient of the recently launched Premier’s Defence Industry Scholarship program. The program is designed to connect high calibre SA university students with defence focused companies through scholarship placements.

John Head, Engineering Manager commented, “At APC Technology we believe that offering internships is not only valuable experience for the individual but also our company.  We can tap into the skills and knowledge of leading third-year and honours students who are completing degrees in Engineering and the intern has the opportunity to build on their skills and knowledge through work-based learning opportunities.”

Brandon’s work experience will include exposure to the normal engineering and production workflows along with involvement in current and upcoming design tasks. He will also gain exposure to the in-house laser cutting, CNC and 3D printing capabilities. Brandon will also undertake a product development project in order to meet the requirements of the internship.

This project will involve a range of engineering tasks, including requirements development, concept evolution, materials choices, structural design, Finite Element Analysis, environmental testing (Shock and Vibration, Temperature/Humidity) and design reviews. APC is uniquely able to provide these services under one roof, thereby providing Brandon good levels of exposure to the tools of the trade.

Brandon is currently a mechanical engineering student at Flinders University. He explained why he chose to complete his internship with the company. “APC’s Managing Director Scott Begbie was on the panel as an industry expert during the application process. Upon confirmation of my success, I was invited into the company and was impressed by what I saw. I was excited at the prospect of gaining experience in all areas of engineering which I wouldn’t get at other companies. However the main reason for choosing APC Technology was not only the experience, but that they were clearly committed to ensuring I was given the time I need to develop as an engineer and get the experience to reach my potential.”

The Premier’s Defence Industry Scholarship Program supports the development of a defence-ready workforce by connecting South Australian university students with defence companies through scholarship placements.
