APC Technology delivers light weight, high performing MIL-SPEC diesel generators for the RAAF

APC Technology has completed and delivered one of the lightest, smallest MIL-SPEC diesel generators available in today’s market. Designed for integration into custom designed deployable shelters.

Daronmont Technologies contracted APC Technology to design, manufacture and certify generators for integration into deployment shelters for the Australian Air Force’s Surveillance and Response Group (SRG). The project was specifically for No 44 Wing, which commands all of the eleven air traffic control (ATC) detachments across Australia.  44WG personnel have been actively involved in a number of operations including Sudan, East Timor, Iraq/Middle East, Solomon Islands and Indonesia. Their roles have ranged from active operational duties to peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

Daronmont’s partnership with APC Technology required the delivery of generators based on specific requirements including size, weight and output. They also needed to perform and survive in rugged conditions, including challenging environmental ecosystems, varying altitudes and weather conditions.

John Head, Engineering Manager at APC Technology commented on the approach to the design of a more compact but highly efficient generator. “Our engineering team has an enviable depth & breadth of experience and relish a challenge. In order to minimise weight without compromising electrical and environmental performance we utilised our experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to select the optimal material and construction methods. Through close collaboration with our partners we selected components that provide further weight savings whilst improving overall performance.”

Duncan Groome, Chief Engineer at Daronmont Technologies has taken delivery of the generators for integration into the deployable shelters. “APC Technology brought a capability we did not have in house and we are delighted that the partnership has been a success. They have a deep understanding of the design and have impressed us with their support and proactive approach to feedback and modifications. We look forward to working with them on future generator projects.”
