APC Technology is an authorised partner of Getac.

The latest generations of the Getac S410 semi rugged laptop has been launched. Though it may look the same it comes with faster processors, improved graphics, faster storage, improved battery power and more.

Notable is the rapid adoption of the latest Intel technology- some competitors are two or more generations behind. Users are able to choose the CPU which suits their requirements meaning the pricing can start from entry level up to top of the line.

Change in storage creates a longer battery life

The default hard disk found in earlier generations has now been replaced with the super-fast PCIe NVMe solid state storage. The change in footprint has enabled the housing of bigger batteries. Rugged PC Review tested the S410 in 2017 and the batteries maxed out at two smallish 46.6 watt-hour batteries whereas the latest version offers 74.6 watt-hour batteries and an option to add more into the multimedia bay. This means a huge improvement- critical for users in the field or on the move.

A media bay designed for choice and flexibility

The bay can be customised with no fewer than 7 different options. There are different kinds of optical multi drives, different kinds of legacy expansion cards, additional storage, an additional battery, and now even a 1D/2D barcode reader.

In addition to available multimedia bay options, the new S410 also offers no fewer than four different I/O block configurations that can include DB9 serial, RJ45 LAN, DisplayPort, VGA and additional USB.

Tougher and more rugged

Whilst Getac brand the S410 as semi-rugged it’s a term that doesn’t really do it justice. It really is far more rugged than the 100+ millions consumer and business laptops sold every year. Additionally this latest generation has been upgraded in key areas and also continues to incorporate a range of specifications to protect the device.

  • The S410 gen 4 can operate at more extreme temperatures making it suitable for almost any environment.
  • The ingress rating is now IP53- this means the unit is protected against dust and water spray from above within a 15 degrees angle.
  • Protected I/O ports
  • Splash proof keyboard
  • Protective rubber corners
  • Ergonomic designed rubber handle
