Rob’s Count Down to the Tour de Legacy 2018 900km Charity Ride.

Firstly, a massive thank you to all my friends, colleagues and local suppliers, namely Acacia Research and APC Technology who have already generously donated to my charity homepage to support the Legacy Charity. At the time of writing I have now raised over $11,500 and still going strong.

Further to my previous article which appeared in the June issue of CAvS Comms, this Legacy Charity event was officially launched on 14th June by the Right Honourable Lord Major of Adelaide, Martin Haese who did an opening address at the Adelaide Town Hall for over 200 sponsors, organisers, riders and supporters. This presentation was also attended by Stuart O’Grady, Australian Tour De France Winner and Parton of the Tour De Legacy (TDL) Europe 2018. Stuart, provide some insight of what to expect during the 8 day ride together with some hints and tips when riding through European in mid-winter. Wind, rain and cobble streets in France are not going to be our friends!

Since the opening event, I have now cycled over 2,000 kms with a small group of friends and also with the larger TDL Peloton, including a number of winter rides to acclimatise (well sort of) for what’s is in store in November. Several of our rides have also found us in the McLaren Vale where a winery visit or two proved to be extremely inspirational!

In  August we did a Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings where we cooked over 95 kgs of snags and used over 50 loaves of bread which were donated by Foodland. This proved to be a manic but most rewarding day. Needless to say, I won’t be eating hot dogs for the foreseeable future.

This ride will start in London and will depart from the Australian Embassy on 1st November and will end at the Australian memorial at Villers-Bretonneux on 11th November. This will commemorate 100 years since the armistice of the First World War. This event will be attended by Prince Michael of Kent and the Australian Prime Minister. Villers-Bretonneux is also the site of the new $100m Sir John Monash Centre which was opened earlier this year.

Cobham is kindly supporting a BBQ to help my fund raising efforts. This will be held on Friday 19th October at 11:00 and will be located at the Adelaide HQ Main Car Park in front of Hangar C.
