APC Technology Supports AUDBF’s World Record Solar Aircraft Project

At APC Technology, we’re passionate about supporting the next generation of engineers and innovators. That’s why we proudly sponsor the Adelaide University Design, Build, Fly (AUDBF) team as they take on an ambitious challenge: to design and build a solar-powered aircraft capable of breaking the world record for continuous flight duration.

Building a World-First

The AUDBF project, which began in January 2025, brings together a team of 30 enthusiastic student engineers ranging from first year to final year. Their goal is to create a lightweight, solar-powered aircraft that can fly continuously for over eight hours, with a world record attempt scheduled for December this year.

On Saturday 6th September, the team successfully conducted a test flight without solar panels to validate the airframe design. The aircraft itself is an impressive feat of engineering – with a wingspan of three metres, a total weight of just 2.1 kilograms, and construction from advanced materials including Aero-ASA 3D printing and garolite fibreglass.

APC Technology’s Involvement

As part of our sponsorship, APC Technology has contributed financial support, engineering input, and manufacturing expertise. Our team 3D-printed half of the aircraft during the prototype and build stages, helping the students validate and refine their design.

For us, it’s about more than sponsorship – it’s about investing in skills, capability, and innovation. These students are not only tackling complex engineering challenges, but also demonstrating the collaboration, problem-solving, and resilience that will define the future of Australian technology.

Why We Sponsor STEM and Innovation Initiatives

For over 40 years, APC Technology has been designing and manufacturing advanced technology solutions for defence, mining, rail, and industrial sectors. Our success has always been built on innovation and on empowering people who think differently and push boundaries.

Supporting initiatives like AUDBF is our way of giving back – helping nurture the next generation of engineers and showing them that Australian-made innovation can compete on the global stage. It’s also an opportunity for us to share our own expertise and resources with bright young minds who will shape the industries of tomorrow.

Looking Ahead

The AUDBF team will continue testing and refining their solar aircraft over the coming months in preparation for their world record attempt in December. We look forward to following their journey and celebrating their achievements as they showcase the best of Australian ingenuity.

At APC Technology, we remain committed to fostering innovation, supporting STEM pathways, and building sovereign capability – because when we invest in people and ideas, we all go further.
