APC Technology and Whitecell Systems Partner to Advance Sovereign Clean Energy for Mining and Defence

APC Technology has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Whitecell Systems, marking the start of a strategic partnership to deliver sovereign, clean-energy solutions that enhance Australia’s energy resilience and support its low-emission transition across the mining and defence sectors.

The partnership combines APC Technology’s Australian-designed rugged and intrinsically safe (IECEx) systems with Whitecell Systems’ globally proven High Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (HT-PEM) fuel cell technology — already deployed in more than 1,000 installations worldwide.

Whitecell Systems’ HT-PEM fuel cells have demonstrated exceptional reliability in some of the world’s harshest environments, from desert heat to high-altitude cold, providing a clean, stable, and efficient source of energy where traditional power systems struggle to perform.

Together, APC Technology and Whitecell Systems will explore applications that:

• Develop rugged, sovereign clean-energy systems engineered for Australia’s toughest conditions.

• Support low-emission mining operations through diesel-displacement hybrid microgrids powered by methanol fuel cells.

• Undertake investigations with Defence and industry partners to assess opportunities for deployable, low-signature energy systems, enhancing operational resilience and supporting Defence’s interim 2030 and net-zero 2050 goals as outlined in the Defence Strategic Review (2023).

The collaboration represents a significant opportunity to advance Australia’s sovereign clean-energy capability, supporting national goals for energy independence, sustainability, and industrial resilience.

APC Technology and Whitecell Systems are now inviting expressions of interest from organisations seeking to participate in the open pilot program, designed to assess how this proven technology can best serve Australian operational environments — from remote mine sites to tactical Defence applications.
