APC Technology Collaborates with PMB Defence on Nuclear Submarine Battery Display Systems

Adelaide-based APC Technology is proud to announce its collaboration with PMB Defence on a critical component of the battery monitoring system for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence’s nuclear submarine program.

This engagement will see APC Technology support the design and engineering of a specialised display units that will interface with PMB Defence’s advanced battery monitoring systems. These displays are intended to provide essential operational data and visibility into the performance and status of the submarine batteries, a key link in the vessel’s propulsion chain.

In a nuclear-powered submarine, the onboard nuclear reactor generates steam, which powers turbines that not only propel the submarine but also charge its battery systems. These batteries then provide critical back up power to the Submarine.   This project marks APC Technology’s expanding capability into supporting nuclear submarines.

Andrew Perry, Strategic Growth Lead for Defence and Space at APC Technology, is working closely with Mike Hartas, General Manager of New Technology at PMB Defence on the early scoping stages of the display solution for the battery monitoring system, ensuring that it meets the exacting demands of naval operations in one of the world’s most challenging environments.

This latest collaboration builds on APC Technology’s deep history in delivering ruggedised, mission-critical technology across the defence sector. The company’s extensive experience includes its work on the Hanwha LAND 400 Phase 3 project, where APC Technology developed rugged GVA display screens for mounted combat vehicles. The growth in defence-related projects, including this work with PMB Defence, has supported business expansion and created skilled employment opportunities within APC Technology.

This collaboration also reflects the long-standing innovation and tradition of the Royal Navy’s submarine force. APC Technology is proud to support this legacy of excellence through its partnership with PMB Defence.
