BFBS and APC Technology Partner to Enhance Defence and Mining Wellbeing Across Australasia

BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service), the UK-based media organisation and military charity serving armed forces communities worldwide, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Australian company APC Technology Pty Ltd.

The partnership will deliver next-generation broadcast, media, and welfare technology solutions across the Defence and mining sectors throughout Australasia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Under the agreement, BFBS and APC Technology will collaborate to deliver MiPlayer and MiPlayer Edge — secure, offline-ready content platforms providing entertainment, training, and wellbeing media to remote and disconnected environments such as ships at sea, deployed bases, and remote mining sites.

The partnership supports the Australian Defence Digital Strategy Roadmap 2024, Next Generation Navy initiative, and the Defence and Veteran Family Wellbeing Strategy 2025–2030, while also aligning with major national mining wellbeing programs, including the Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) Program and Resource Minds.

“I am delighted to have signed this agreement between APC Technology and BFBS to further our ambitions to deliver our innovative media and welfare technology and services to the Australian and wider IndoPac armed forces,” said Nick Beers, BFBS Director of Development and Strategy. “It is fitting that we announce this agreement at IndoPacific 2025 — a great event where BFBS has been exhibiting since 2017.”

BFBS’s MiPlayer system already serves the UK Ministry of Defence and allied forces, offering secure access to television, VOD, radio, podcasts, sport, music, and wellbeing resources without requiring internet connectivity. The platform will now be tailored to Australian Defence and mining contexts — where connectivity, safety, and wellbeing are mission-critical.

“We are proud to work alongside BFBS to deliver technology that enhances wellbeing and connectedness across Defence and mining communities,” said Craig Williams, Managing Director, APC Technology. “This collaboration strengthens Australia’s sovereign capability in digital welfare and supports national workforce wellbeing priorities.”

South Australian Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and Veterans’ Affairs, Joe Szakacs, welcomed the partnership, noting it reflects both South Australia’s leadership in Defence innovation and its growing focus on workforce wellbeing across industries.

A special handshake ceremony and photo opportunity took place at IndoPac 2025, marking this milestone partnership and celebrating the shared mission to support those who serve, sustain, and strengthen Australia.
